Are You Up-to-Date?

The French have a term—au courant—which Merriam-Webster defines as “fashionable or fully informed, up-to-date.” While knowing and following the latest trends is essential to many (Vogue says skinny jeans are out?!), keeping your digital presence current is also critical. Below is a checklist of ten items you can take on to stay au courant this October.

A Short-and-Sweet Digital Checklist

  1. Make posts regularly. When was the last time you posted to your Facetwittergram account? If it’s been a while, could you post in a more timely cadence, or should you…

  2. Delete unused social media accounts. For example, if you have a business YouTube account, yet your organization doesn’t have a video posted within the last year, it might be time to delete it. (Or take note of the first point above!)

  3. Business social media channels should be linked. For example, if your company has a branded TikTok account, make sure your website is connected to it.

  4. Links work. While we’re on the topic of website links, do you have any broken ones? This is a good one to check out, especially if you link to external websites.

  5. Evaluate often. It is always a great idea to conduct a website and social media channel audit on your own brand—what are your prospective clients seeing and experiencing when they Google you?

  6. Logos and language are consistent. If your organization has rebranded, are all logos updated in your public channels? Also, are your value propositions and key messages the current iteration? Finally, consider adding any current details that may add value—shareable client wins, community involvement activities, or recent awards.

  7. The last blog is not two years old. Imagine this: a news page on a company’s website is not “new.” When you are running a business or working to meet organizational goals, regular blogging isn’t the first thing on your mind—we get it! However, blogs do not have to be lengthy to be effective. Perhaps consider a guest author or share your take on recent industry happenings. If you are a non-profit leader, might one of your board members or community partners have a remarkable story to share?

  8. Headshot is updated. This is a hard one, especially for those who like our professional headshot taken 15 years ago. However, business experience is often coupled with advancing in years. So do not be afraid to show your expertise at any age!

  9. Bio is approachable and updated. Is your biography speaking directly to your target audience? If you are in the tech world, are you using the appropriate buzzwords? Are you a financial planner who isn’t discussing how retirement planning impacts a person’s entire familial legacy? Remember to craft an approachable biography for those who are reading it.

  10. LinkedIn page has cover photo. Most people know to make sure their avatar on LinkedIn is a clean headshot, but did you know that it is also important to use the space available for a cover photo? For example, consider a graphic including your website or the principal value you offer others.
